Crossing The Country

Remember the amazing Terry Fox? In 1980 he embarked on a journey to run/walk across Canada to raise money for cancer research. What makes this story even more remarkable is that he had an amputated leg, and the technology of prosthetic limbs has come a LONG way in recent years, but back then his prosthetic leg was not the bionic enabler that Oscar Pistorius used to cross the finish line at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Since Terry Fox, many other courageous individuals have taken it upon themselves to walk, swim, and ride for the causes close to their hearts. One such individual is Rob Dyer - founder of Skate4Cancer. Rob lost some people very close to him to cancer at a young age which motivated him to embark on a skate marathon from LA to his hometown of Toronto to spread his message to the youth of our nation. Since then he has skated the length of Canada as well as all the way across New Zealand and a large portion of Australia, throwing skate comps and other events along the way!

His work doesn't end there however. His second endeavor, the second branch of Skate4Cancer is known as The Cure is Knowledge, which is focused on healthy living and education on cancer prevention. The third branch of the Skate4Cancer foundation is the Dream Love Cure Centre, the primary focus of the organization now, building a physical community centre for those affected by cancer.

No matter what Rob Dyer and Skate4Cancer take on, it always has an incredible impact on his hometown of Toronto, and across the world. His contributions to the skate community and cancer research is monumental, especially for someone so young! I wish him all the best on his future plans. If you haven't already, make sure you check out www.dreamlovecure.org and the next Skate4Cancer event in your city. Until next time...
